Solid Virtue: A Triduum and Spiritual Conferences
Solid Virtue: A Triduum and Spiritual Conferences
For those who have lost the relish for heavenly things or become tepid in their spiritual exercises, this three day retreat, or triduum, was organized.
The soul is taken through meditations on venial sin, tepidity, abuse of grace, recollection, fervor in prayer, and developing solid virtue. Hear the words of Fr. Bellecius on the necessity of this retreat:
“Alas! after so many communions, the same tepidity; after so many confessions, the same stains in the soul; after so many meditations, retreats, examens, the same predominant passions, the same abuse of grace, the same apathy in the exercise of the duties of the holy life you have chosen. Is there not just reason to fear lest, since you are like the barren fig-tree described by St. Luke, you shall likewise be hewn down and destroyed by the avenging hand of God? It is absolutely necessary then to apply yourself to this holy retreat with such fervor as at the hour of death you will wish.”
“So many violent passions not yet completely subdued; so many vicious and deeply-rooted habits not yet corrected...there is a pressing need to avert the ruin of your soul by a timely correct of these faults."
