The Secret of Sanctity
The Secret of Sanctity
The Secret of Sanctity provides a complete roadmap for growth in the spiritual life—from the first fervor of conversion to complete detachment from the world and union with Jesus Christ.
To enable us to realize this ideal of a holy life, some of the most beautiful passages from St. Francis de Sales’ Introduction to the Devout Life and his immortal Treatise on the Love of God are arranged alongside writings of Fr. Jean Crasset (1618–1692), a French priest of the Society of Jesus well known for his doctrine and piety.
The volume guides the reader through mental prayer, detachment, practicing the presence of God, proper disposition for reception of the sacraments, meditation on the Passion, visits to the blessed sacrament, mortification, and concludes with an overview of the perfect union with God and contemplative prayer.
Each section blends the teachings from the doctor of piety and the French Jesuits in a way that is sure to “renew our resolutions and excite ourselves to fervor, as if it were the first day of our conversion”.
“There is nothing so easy, so simple, so within the reach of all, as sanctity! . . . it is only your heart that need be changed.”
